Expert Shower Pan Installation in Northeast Florida | Legacy Interior Services

"Freshly sloped mortar mud bed packed into a custom walk in shower base ready for tile installation"

Building a bathroom that lasts in Northeast Florida’s humid coastal climate requires more than just beautiful tile—it requires an absolutely waterproof foundation. At Legacy Interior Services, we specialize in professional shower pan installation for both custom new homes and full bathroom remodeling projects across Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and the surrounding communities.

A leaking shower pan can quietly cause thousands of dollars in structural wood rot and dangerous mold growth behind your walls. Whether you are building your dream home from the ground up or upgrading your current master bath, our team ensures your shower is built on a flawless, leak-free base.

Our 7-Step Shower Pan Installation Process

We follow a rigorous, industry-standard methodology for every installation to guarantee a watertight seal that handles the shifting and moisture unique to local Florida homes.

1.Pre-Floor Inspection & Prep:Step 1.

We evaluate the subfloor (concrete slab or wood framing) for levelness and structural integrity. Any dips or imperfections are ground down or filled to ensure a perfectly flat starting surface.

2.Establishing the Pre-Slope:Step 2.

A proper sloped mortar bed (or pre-sloped manufactured tray) is installed beneath the liner. This step is vital: it ensures that any water reaching the liner is directed down into the weep holes of the drain, preventing stagnant water from trapping moisture under your tile.

3.Installing the 3-Piece Drain System:Step 3.

We install a professional-grade three-piece shower drain. The bottom flange is secured tightly to the plumbing waste line, perfectly flush with the pre-slope layer.

4.Laying the Waterproofing Liner:Step 4.

A thick, durable waterproofing membrane (CPE/PVC liner or advanced liquid-applied system) is meticulously tailored to the shower footprint. We extend the liner at least 3 inches above the finished curb and fold corners cleanly without cutting them to prevent weak spots.

5.The 24-Hour Water Flood Test:Step 5.

Before any mud or tile goes over the liner, we plug the drain and fill the pan with water for 24 hours. This mandatory test ensures the pan is 100% airtight and leak-free under real water pressure.

6.Final Mortar Bed (The Mud Bed):Step 6.

Once the flood test passes, a second layer of reinforced sand-mix mortar is packed over the liner. We carefully slope this layer at a precise pitch of 1/4 inch per foot toward the drain, creating the smooth foundation your tile will rest on.

7.Curb Waterproofing & Clean Up:Step 7.

The shower curb—the most common failure point in DIY showers—is wrapped securely with the waterproofing matrix. The entire area is cleaned, prepped, and cleared for the tile installation phase.
